Power For Life Now, December Newsletter

Greetings!

I don’t know about you but this year has flown by quickly. Maybe because there was a lot on my plate and not much time to be bored.

How has this year been for you?

I am coming to the end of a yearlong spiritual exercise where I wrote a question in the morning and lived the answer throughout the day. Well, at least I tried. In the evening I wrote a response to how the day went in this regard.

spiritual-writing

As a sort of Christmas card/gift, I would like to invite you to read one and see how it strikes you. Maybe you will even try to live into it for a day yourself!

This was the meditation for the morning of December 22, 2014:

Question
God, what would you have me say and do, today?

Answer
Be kind.
Speak gently.
See what is special in other people. Appreciate it… and say it to that person if an opportunity comes that is natural and easy.
Wonder at the day, no matter the weather or your mood. Then do something that expresses your wonder.
Tell yourself ten things you are grateful for.
Thank at least 3 people for something they have contributed to your life.
Be conscious of how blessed you are no matter your present circumstances.
Carry your inner light with grace, and let it shine through your eyes, your words and in all you do, today.
Are you willing to do this?

I have been doing this since January 1st of this year and will have completed the yearlong practice Dec. 31st. It has been quite powerful.

If you have not been in a conscious spiritual practice I encourage you to find something you can do that engages your daily activities with your spiritual life. It can be a very rewarding endeavor.

As your gift to me please send me a line or two of your favorite spiritual practices.

Our December Tap Into Transformation was very heartwarming. I say that with tongue in cheek because our theme was “Bundled Up People.” We even did our very last dance with coats, scarves and hats. Here is the picture!

If you want to hear the promotional video Jeannine and I created click here.

I was a guest performer at the Mosaic Choir concert on Dec. 7th. at the Wesley Center in Boulder, Colorado. I premiered my new song, “His Name is Holy” and also performed my poem, “I am Still Here”, while the Mosaic Choir created a stirring vocal landscape (created by choir director Gary Grundei) in the background. If you want to hear the studio version of the song, and the rendition of the poem, click here to visit the site, The Joy Collaborative. This is a new website for… you guessed it… JOY! Jeannine Goode-Allen, Gary Grundei and I have unveiled the new site and there are now 4 songs you can listen to.  EnJOY! If you would like to check out the live concert, click here.

As we come to the close of another year, let me say that I hope your joys were more than your sorrows.

I hope that your hopes outshined the darkness of any despair.

I hope that your faith was stronger than any discouragement.

And, I hope you remembered that God is over you, under you, beside you and inside you.

If this was not the case for you, then may it be so for next year!

May you have Power for Life Now!
David

Showbiz people.

One of the things I like immensely about actors, dancers, and performers, especially those who are in the position of auditioning often… is that they have an outgoing, positive charisma. They put it on line at every audition, performing as if there life depends on it… which, of course in a sense it does, since they have made the profession their livelihood.

They repeatedly face rejection and must, as a habit, develop a resiliency to rejection. They are forced to keep their spirits up, to put the past behind them and look forward to the next opportunity. They develop a forceful personality, and carry an air of confidence, which supports them in pressure situations of being good in the moment with many eyes watching as you “try out” for a part.

One of the bits of wisdom I gained while being an active performer in Los Angeles and New York is that at an audition, there is no need to worry about getting the job or not. If the job is yours… then it is already yours. You are simply showing up to find out. Yes, you have to be there, and perform… but it is already decided with your presence. First of all, half the people at a general audition should not be there, meaning they just don’t have the things the producers, directors, or choreographers are looking for. That leaves the other half. Then, you must show who you are and what you can do. Then, the decision is out of your hands.

Do what YOU can, and leave the rest to God.

That motto works in all lines of endeavor. Control what you can, and trust the universe to bless you, realizing that you may not know what those blessings may look like.

I spoke with a bellhop at a hotel in Hollywood, who was really an actor. He told me this wonderful phrase that he developed to help him keep going through all the rejections. He said, “The universe favors those who keep their spirits high.”

I don’t know his name, but I have never forgotten him, his bright personality, or that phrase. And I have come to know that he is correct.

Affirmation
I can keep my spirits high because I know that God is guiding me to my best destiny.

Prayer
Thank you for the remembrance of past victories, which gives me faith, hope, strength and joy… even while I am enduring challenging times.

May you have Power for Life Now!

Sharpettes & Annie Ruth’s Truths, December

I began creating what I call Sharpettes over 30 years ago. As a speaker and writer they became my own way of sharpening my understanding of the meaning, power, and energy of a single word. I am sharing them publicly now in hopes that you will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.

The first line is the word.

The second line defines or describes the word twice, 4 syllables for each attempt. You may place a comma or semi-colon between each attempt. So, the second line has a total of 8 syllables.

The third line is a simile. It always begins with the word “Like”, and paints a picture of the word in 10 or 11 syllables.

On some Sharpettes the 4th or 5th syllable of the third line will rhyme with the word on the first line itself. This can yield another insight into the word chosen, and provides a unique and fun poetic challenge.

Enjoy!

David

Annie Ruth’s Truths are my renderings of folk wisdom and country common sense, gained from a lifetime of listening to my mom, who has a unique way with words, as well as a witty, joyous and playful attitude to go with it! Always fun or sassy, they tell the truth and can make you laugh, shake your head and go “Hmph!” or even make you shout, “Whaaat?!”

This month’s Tap Into Transformation is going to warm your heart, body and soul. We will tap dance to the country music of Gordon Lightfoot with lyrics and singing by our very own Jim Gibson. Come bundled up (warm coat, hat, gloves and a scarf!) The fare will be inspired by the cuisine of Switzerland (yes, we will have cheese fondue and bratwurst as well as a wonderful Veltliner white wine!) Any tension or overwhelm you may be holding will melt away, and we guarantee that by the end of the evening you will be “time-stepping” with a smile on your face and joy in your heart.

Join husband and wife duo Dr. Jeannine Goode-Allen and Dr. David Sharp in an evening of transformational song, poetry and tap dancing in our gorgeous and inspiring Viriditas Studio in North Boulder. You will laugh, smile and stomp your feet while feeling the joy of moving your body and opening your heart to awe, wonder, beauty, gratitude and more.
