The Uniqueness of You.

I saw a production of “Death of a Salesman” that was really good. The actors were amazingly skilled. The set was a minimalist setting, so that the actors had to paint the picture with their tone of voice, body language and movements.

I then decided to go home and watch the movie. I was struck that the same lines could be delivered so differently and with such a range of difference. I liked each production, and each left me moved. Still, the difference was vast.

I realized all over again, that the same lines, delivered by a different soul, evoked different things, because the actor brought themselves to the role. And that makes all the difference in the world, because there is no one like each person.

Even if you are an identical twin you are still different. No one is you. Even if someone is ‘like’ you, no one is ‘quite’ like you. And that ‘QUITE’ is a huge difference.

Be-you-Dr-Seuss

When I was performing one time in Oakland, California, I once saw someone in the crowd who looked so much like my father, I just knew he had to be a relative. He caught my attention because he was a news cameraman and held a huge camera on his shoulders. I had never seen someone look so much like my father. I excused myself and went to him. I simply asked if he was a Sharp, and he said yes. I narrowed it down, asking if he had relatives in Texas, and he said he was from Texas. I asked if it might be Brenham and his surprise matched my own. He turned out to be my father’s first cousin, a man whom I’d never met. We spent some time together, and I eventually met his brothers who lived nearby and enjoyed the pleasure of getting to know extended family members I had not known before.

Still, there was much that was different than my own father, no matter the family resemblance.

Each of us comes from somewhere, from a family with shared DNA, but we are also unique. Your soul is unique in the universe. Let this shine through. You can look like someone else, you can remind someone of someone else; but no one else is you, and no one can be you.

Show the world who you are, and you will attract the destiny that is best for you

Affirmation
I am me for a grand reason, a divine purpose, and I am living it.

Prayer
May I be thankful for the opportunities in life to find out more about me. May I take the raw materials of who I am and where I come from and fashion them into a life that is loving and positive to me and to those whose paths I cross.

May you have Power for Life Now!

Power For Life Now, April Newsletter

Greetings!

It has been a little while since my last newsletter. Even as spring is springing, I have some news of the last of winter and then on into spring!

February Tap Into Transformation was about APPRECIATION. Jeannine and I created a song called “We Appreciate”. We played it as the group danced a choreographed set of steps together. After we got to know each other in an atmosphere of fun, we then danced a dance of appreciation to each person as they sat in a chair to receive from each of us. What a powerful feeling to have someone dance in appreciation of you!

By the way, this song will be one of our tunes on our UPCOMING CD (yet to be titled.)  IF YOU HAVE A THOUGHT ABOUT A TITLE FOR AN INSPIRATIONAL CD, PLEASE SEND IT TO ME!

The March Tap Into Transformation was a celebration of St. Patrick and his vision, challenging us to recognize our own visions for ourselves. We showed a short film about his life and created a dance using music from the show, Riverdance.

How powerful it feels to stomp the floor as the Irish cloggers do! The food we served was traditional Irish stew, bread and beer! Click here for a look at the music we danced to. For an extra special treat click here to see how African American and Irish tap dancers trade steps! It is the intertwining of these two cultures that produced American tap dancing.

In March, Jeannine and I hosted our first weekend workshop, called Tap Into Power for Life. And it was indeed powerful. We performed an hour-long performance piece to kickoff the weekend. This piece is called Tap Into Love, and is the story of how tap dancing brought us together, and how we use it in our spiritual lives. We had scheduled to create this for 2016 but Spirit had other plans for us and we received the inspiration needed and created this performance piece ahead of schedule. It is another example of that old saying “God laughs at our plans!”

The next two days, Saturday and Sunday, we dove into our lives and the spiritual joys and challenges. We danced them. We used djembe drums and many other rhythmic instruments to express our inner lives.

We faced our deepest wounds with courage and saw what transformation might look like as dramatized by participants. I have been to a LOT of conferences, seminars, and workshops but I have not seen anything like this. We used tap dance to open a gateway to the spiritual world for healing and transformation. Yes, tap dance (no experience necessary) can open a powerful doorway. If you can stomp and step, that, itself, can be enough. We even had a person there who needed to sit while tapping, and it worked beautifully. We ended by praying with our feet and our whole bodies. Most mornings Jeannine and I still do the prayers we prayed, full body prayers, not only amazingly powerful, but fun. Did you know praying could be fun?!

April’s edition of Tap Into Transformation featured Jeannine playing a stunning modern classical music piece on the piano. The piece is entitled, “Morning Passages” and it is an adventure in moods and settings, challenging us to think deeply about our lives and what it is we are about as we pass through each day. It is a hauntingly beautiful piece. Click on this link to hear a wonderful version of it with an orchestra.

I traveled to Atlanta to see mom, as I do every few months and one of the things I did was show her some footage of me tap dancing she had not seen; in television shows, stage performances, etc. She was so happy to see what I had been doing for so long. Being a tap dancer herself, she said it did her heart good to see that what she loved had also found a deep place in me.

spiritual writing

My wife, Jeannine introduced me to a spiritual practice that I find truly fascinating, useful and dare I say, transformative.  It is asking a question of God. With my right hand, I write, “God, what would you have me say and do today?”   With my left hand, I write what comes through. The guidance has been amazing! We know that the right hand accesses the left-brain, the rational brain. And, the left hand accesses the creative, intuitive right brain. So, the answer is flowing from a side of the brain that can access spirit in a very different, out of the box way.

You might want to try this for yourself. I have noticed that as I have gotten use to this, I can feel the stark difference between the right and left-brain and what each offers. It might feel funny at first, but give it a week and see how it flows. Besides learning to write with the
left hand, you may notice what I did, amazing guidance when the rational mind is set aside. Talk about let go and let God, here is one way to do it!

SNEAK PREVIEW

In next month’s Tap Into Transformation we will celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We will Fiesta and invite participants to envision their own fiesta, if they were to create one.

We will even have a piñata! And margaritas!! Who says spirituality can’t be fun?  Bah, Humbug!

May spring bring you new growth in every area of your life!

And may you have Power for Life, NOW!

Sharpettes & Annie Ruth’s Truths, April

I began creating what I call Sharpettes over 30 years ago. As a speaker and writer they became my own way of sharpening my understanding of the meaning, power, and energy of a single word. I am sharing them publicly now in hopes that you will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.

The first line is the word.
The second line defines or describes the word twice, 4 syllables for each attempt. You may place a comma or semi-colon between each attempt. So, the second line has a total of 8 syllables.
The third line is a simile. It always begins with the word “Like”, and paints a picture of the word in 10 or 11 syllables.

On some Sharpettes the 4th or 5th syllable of the third line will rhyme with the word on the first line itself. This can yield another insight into the word chosen, and provides a unique and fun poetic challenge.

Enjoy!

Annie Ruth’s Truths are my renderings of folk wisdom
and country common sense, gained from a lifetime of
listening to my mom, who has a unique way with
words, as well as a witty, joyous and playful attitude
to go with it! Always fun or sassy, they tell the truth
and can make you laugh, shake your head and go
“Hmph!” or even make you shout, “Whaaat?!”

Mom: “I’ll let you buy the car from us for $69.00 a month.”
Celanese (my sister): “Why $69.00?”
Mom: “Well, okay, $169.”
Celanese: “Okay, okay, I get the message.”
